My xbox games give me achievement points for completing specific tasks. Sometimes it’s extremely easy to get ( obtain the sniper rifle) and sometimes extremely hard (make 100 head-shots without a sniper rifle). There is a high degree of satisfaction when you get achievements and it gives you bragging rights on your aggregate gamer score. Sometimes there are hidden achievements that pop up as a bonus.
I thought to myself why not calibrate an achievement system for everyday life. If you go through life without goals then you cannot achieve anything. The first thing we need to do is set goals .
What are your goals?
Do you have a 30, 60, 90 day plan for your life?
Is there some place that you would like to be in the next year?
What about work? Are you setting yourself up to be in a better position for a promotion?
What are you doing to effect this change?
Are you in the same place this year as you were last year? If so then you are not moving. You are stagnant and need to formulate a plan now. If you are in a better position, good but we need to figure out what is the next step.
We can set a goal to make a million dollars but that might take too long. We should set a goal for our first hundred grand and then move on the the next…. baby steps right?
If we don’t achieve a goal ( because sometimes we might aim just a little too high ) we may want to reevaluate our goals.
Certainly you’ve heard of SMART planning?
Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic and Timely
This acronym speaks for itself. Apply this principle to your life and tailor it to fit your needs.
Reward yourself for every achievement.
A Silent Exit
Your eyes revealed what your mouth denied
Be with me tonight and
Never leave my hollow chest
Embrace the forbidden
Drink from the coveted
Tomorrow ‘tis not,
So just feign it never will
The pigeons, omens of a bittersweet decline
Reminders that morning returns to steal calm
The clock ticks,
A symbol of separation coming
I cling to the last embers of your sweetest embrace
You will always be a mystery, even to yourself
You are removed you from my skin and replaced
Shielded, we perform our exit dance
One step follows another until we’re at that place
And for just a fleeting moment
I feel you under my skin
Under my breath I yearn to speak
I cannot lose the grip pride has on my tongue
So with this goodbye, as with the last
I leave something
Dreaded tomorrow ‘tis here
Our silence speaks volumes
