So many persons have told me that they are skipping Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah this year because of the recession. I always say I’m not skipping Christmas this year because I am giving the gift of love which is better than any gift and most importantly it is free … and most times comes right back to you.
I thought deeper about this and realized that love is probably the greatest gift I could ever give to someone, especially myself.
Love is tied to many things but I feel one of the core attributes of love is acceptance. You have to accept yourself for who and what you are before you can begin to love yourself. If you accept the differences in others you can love them as well in spite of the differences, remembering that God loves all the flowers, including the wild ones that grow along the roadside
Going back on the premise that everyone is fundamentally good, then it follows that everyone deserves some love some compassion and a fair chance to move through this world.
It can be upsetting when friends say that they simply do not communicate with their family and others who are supposed to be close to them. It is true that, like everything else in the world, you choose who to love and I know that I am fortunate that this is not my experience. I just think that family is the strongest bond of our humanity and no matter how you cultivate relationships out there, blood is thicker than water. When we grow older the greatest love we can bestow on our partners or friends is to think of them as family.
The best feeling is when you can think of friends as family and you think of family as friends.
In the end it doesn’t matter who you love, just as long as above all things, you choose love. It is the gift that you should give yourself and everyone around you this holiday season.
