Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

Easily one of the best books I read last year, this was a heartfelt romp in a time machine that chronicled themes of love, loss, loyalty and everything in between. As a period piece this book captures all the emotions in times of love and war.

A play between a Chinese American boy and a Japanese American girl reveals all the necessary issues surrounding the period of world war 2. The story engulfs you and this book is a page turner taking you back and forth in time.

Character sketches are on point and the emotions swirl off the pages. It is indeed a triumph and a celebration of love as you go along a familiar journey that is refreshingly told. This book is a celebration.
